St Anne's C of E Primary School

Class 6

What have we been up to this year???????

A lot of hard work and a lot of fun!

Highlights have included: a trip to Thorpe Woodlands where we scaled trees, flew down zip wires, canoed and tunnelled in caves!

We also had a fabulous Art focus on chicken wire: check out our penguins!

In DT we made houses that would withstand flooding and gave them a full-on storm treatment to see how they would survive! This one was FABULOUS!

We have also learnt to bike brilliantly in BIKEABILTY so we know how to keep ourselves safe on the roads.

This term we are loving our music lessons with Mrs Rees. We have learnt all about different musical elements and are really enjoying learning how to play the keyboard.

Useful information

Year 6 is a great place to be- lots of hard work and lots of fun too! Our aim is to make the last year of primary school a special one where children can reach their full potential and shine as a person and also as a learner.

Miss Curtis teaches English, Maths, Reading and the start of the topic lessons on a Monday- Wednesday and acts as booster teacher on Thursday and Friday so that we can maximise and personalise support for as many children as possible.

Mrs Mueller teaches spelling Mon-Wed mornings and also leads the children for the last part of these afternoons where the focus this term is on DT and Computing (the PE is led by  Mr Evans, our Sports Specialist).

Mrs Eddleston teaches the whole of Thursday and Friday and will lead Science, RE and MFL as well as the English, Maths and reading lessons on those days.

All the adults work very closely together so if you let one of us know about something we will work together to support your child. Class dojo is a great way to get in touch and keep an eye out please as this is also a great way for us to communicate with you too!

PE- Wednesday afternoon- The children will need an outdoor PE kit with trainers and, when it is colder, a long sleeved sweatshirt and joggers. Shorts and a t-shirt are required for indoor PE. Please ensure that all items of kit and uniform are clearly named.

Home learning

Now that we have such brilliant engagement with Google Classrooms we don’t want to lose it and from November 2021 we will use this platform to set weekly home pre-learning tasks and quizzes. We also use this to personalise learning in school too. Google Classrooms is the way that we share work with your child in the case of needing to self-isolate so please ensure that they always know how to access this. We also use it to store our daily planning so obviously there’s no need for your child to repeat work they have done in class!

We hope that using Google Classroom will help develop the children’s independence in becoming secondary school ready – we see this year as a time to help them learn to ‘fly’ on their own as they move into the next stage of their school career. Reading really is the key that underpins everything to your child’s future success- we LOVE losing ourselves in a book and hope that this enthusiasm transfers to your child. Please, please encourage them to read for 30 minutes a day and sign up to do AR quizzes in school.

We look forward to working with you on your child’s learning journey this year. Thank you.
