School operation during COVID 19 outbreak

Thank you to all of our families who have shown a really calm and rational approach to the current situation facing us all. We know this is a worrying time.

Because the situation relating to COVID-19 is changing all the time, we will be keeping parents up to date via parent mail. However we will also use this section of the website to communicate the information alongside this.

The school is currently open with some restrictions.

Partial School Closure

The new government guidelines related to those that now require to restrict social contact and those members of the community who need to self isolate, has impacted on staffing levels within the school and we have had to make the difficult decision to close two classes.  As of Wednesday 18th of March Reception Class and Class 2 are closed and we are asking for those children to stay at home. If any further closures are required we will communicate with families at the earliest opportunity, using parent-mail, letter home and the school website.

Children working from home

We fully appreciate that some children may be required to be at home for sometime. Whilst there is no replacement for quality teaching in the classroom with qualified members of staff, we are in the process of putting packs of work together for children to complete at home. Please be patient as the staff are under a lot of strain at the moment and whilst many of our classes are operating normally, teachers are having to put this work together outside of normal teaching and planning time.  We will get packs out to those that require them in the coming days.

Children with underlying medical needs

Parents of children with underlying medical needs have been contacted and arrangements have been made in line with their own doctors professional medical advice.

General illness reporting

If your child is unwell for any reason, please carry on reporting it to the school in the usual way.

Soft opening at start of the day.

Please be aware that to stop large groups of people congregating on the playground at the start of the day, classrooms will be open from 8.45am until 9am. This allows parents to 'drop and go'. Please stagger dropping off your children in the morning.

Children attending smart moves of eat and learn will be bought in as quickly as possible at 8.30am to stop build up of people in the reception area.

Class assemblies and school events.

Please be aware that to avoid having more visitors into the school than is absolutely necessary, we have cancelled class assemblies, musical performance assemblies and the homework sharing open afternoons.

We are currently in discussions regarding the end of term Eucharist, but it is unlikely to be open to parents and will probably be moved into the school hall rather than at St Marys Church. We will update closer to the time.
