Class 6

Class 6 Teachers

Miss Sibson is one of two teachers in Class 6. She teaches the class on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Mrs Sibson is also one of the Assistant Head Teachers and she is also the subject leader for History and PSHE across the school.

Mrs Eddleston is one of two teachers that teach in Class 6. She teaches on a Thursday and Friday. She is also the MFL lead in the school and can speak Spanish fluently. 

Welcome to the Year 6 Class Page!

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all our children, parents, and visitors . Year 6 is a really important time in every child's educational journey as it marks them coming to the end of primary school and looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We hope to prepare them for the next steps in this journey by supporting their learning and teaching them to become resilient independent learners.

This year promises to be an adventure as we prepare our pupils for their transition to secondary school. Along the way, we'll be guiding them through a curriculum designed to stimulate their minds, ignite their curiosity, and equip them with the skills they need to succeed in the next chapter of their academic journey. We will be working towards our SATs papers as well as a wide breadth of other curriculum subjects that we hope they will find interesting and engaging.  Please see our curriculum knowledge organisers for more detail about each individual subject.

But it's not all about hard work. We believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment where children can thrive both academically and socially. From engaging lessons to memorable extracurricular activities - such as our residential - there will be plenty of opportunities for our Year 6 pupils to learn, grow, and have fun.

We're excited to see our pupils rise to new challenges, embrace new opportunities, and feel happy and confident to start their next steps. 

     

Autumn Term 

Welcome to Year 6! We are excited to begin what promises to be a fantastic and memorable final year of primary school. This half term, our learning will be centred around World War II, where we will discover what life was like during this significant period in history. A highlight of the term will be our visit to Duxford Air Museum, bringing our learning to life through first-hand experiences.

In English, we will use our history topic as inspiration for writing engaging diary entries, newspaper reports and stories. In Maths, we will strengthen our understanding of place value before moving on to written methods for addition and subtraction. Our Science learning will focus on light, while in Art we will explore macro photography and digital art to develop our creativity. We will also deepen our understanding of Christianity through our RE topic on Creation. We can't wait for an exciting and successful start to Year 6!

 

PE/ Forest School

Autumn 1 - This half term Class 6 will be doing Forest School on a Tuesday. Please could children come to school in weather-appropriate clothes. They must wear trousers and long-sleeved tops to participate.

Year 6 Homework Expectations

Spellings:
Weekly spellings will be shared on Class Dojo and on the homework sheet (see below) in advance so children can practise before the lesson. As well as learning the correct spelling, children should be able to use each word confidently in their own writing to show they understand its meaning.

Times Tables:
By Year 6, quick recall of times tables and strong arithmetic skills are essential. We recommend children spend at least 25 minutes a week on TT Rockstars or other arithmetic practice, ideally split into a few short sessions.

Reading:
Children are expected to read at home at least five times a week for a minimum of 20 minutes each time. Reading regularly supports spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, and writing skills, as well as developing positive study habits. It also develops reading independence and stamina ready for secondary school. Please sign your child’s reading journal each time they read.

Maths Homework:
Children will bring home a maths worksheet or revision practice each week. These are great practice for the end of the year.
